  •  Forest elephants and birdlife in Lake Manyara
  • Short, logical driving distances
  • A complete Northern Circuit experience in 3 days

Why Choose a 3 Days Northern Circuit Safari in Tanzania

The Northern Circuit is Tanzania’s most compact safari region.
With the right order, three days are enough to experience its highlights without rushing.

This itinerary works because:

  • Tarangire is visited first, close to Arusha and Moshi
  • Overnight stays are in Karatu, near Ngorongoro
  • Ngorongoro Crater is explored early, when wildlife is active
  • Lake Manyara is visited last, on the return route

The result is less time on the road and more time in nature.

What Clients Say About Us

3 Days Northern Circuit Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Tarangire – Elephants & Open Plains

Arusha / Moshi → Tarangire National Park → Karatu

You depart Arusha or Moshi in the morning and drive to Tarangire National Park. The landscape opens into wide savannah dotted with ancient baobab trees. Elephant families are commonly seen moving across the plains, often in large numbers.

Game viewing is unhurried, allowing time to observe wildlife around the Tarangire River before leaving the park in the late afternoon.

You continue to Karatu Town, a quiet highland area near Ngorongoro.

Overnight: Karatu
Game drive: 4–5 hours

Insights from our guides:
Tarangire often rewards slow driving and patience more than distance covered.

Karatu → Ngorongoro Crater → Karatu

After an early breakfast, you descend into Ngorongoro Crater. Wildlife appears quickly and in high concentration. You may see lions, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, and, with luck, the black rhino.

You enjoy a morning game drive, followed by a picnic lunch near the hippo pool, before ascending the crater walls and returning to Karatu in the afternoon.

Overnight: Karatu
Game drive: 4–5 hours

Insights from our guides:
Early entry offers quieter roads and more natural animal movement.

Karatu → Lake Manyara National Park → Arusha / Moshi / Airport

After breakfast, you drive a short distance to Lake Manyara National Park. The park feels cooler and greener, with a groundwater forest, open floodplains, and lakeshore views.

Game viewing focuses on forest elephants, giraffes, baboons, and rich birdlife. The park offers a gentle contrast to the open plains of Tarangire and the crater floor.

After the game drive, you return to Arusha or Moshi, or transfer directly to the airport for your onward flight.

Game drive: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Forest & lakeshore

Insights from our guides:
Manyara is best enjoyed slowly; it’s about atmosphere as much as wildlife.
