Our Team Helps Pick Up Litter on Kilimanjaro

At Halisi Travel, we’re passionate about preserving the beauty and integrity of Mt Kilimanjaro. That’s why we proudly participate in regular mountain clean-ups — because this iconic peak deserves to stay pristine for generations to come.

A Week of Cleaning Up

Recently, our team joined a dedicated group of volunteers and tourism professionals for a full week of litter-picking along Kilimanjaro’s routes. From discarded bottles to food wrappers, we collected anything that didn’t belong on the mountain. It was tough work, but every piece of trash removed was a win for the environment.

The Halisi Travel Clean-Up Team

Our clean-up crew included guides, porters, and staff members who volunteered their time and energy. Equipped with gloves, sacks, and an unstoppable spirit, they tackled even the messiest areas of the trail. We’re incredibly proud of their efforts and commitment to keeping Kilimanjaro clean.

Who Is KRTO?

The clean-up was part of an initiative by the Kilimanjaro Responsible Tourism Organisation (KRTO)a group working to promote sustainable trekking practices. KRTO collaborates with ethical tour operators like Halisi Travel to make a real difference on the ground.

A Boggy Issue

One major challenge was the boggy areas near some campsites, where waterlogged trails make litter difficult to retrieve. But our team didn’t back down. Using boots and grit, they cleaned even the trickiest spots, leaving the trails in far better shape than they found them.

Let's Protect the Integrity of Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro isn’t just a mountain — it’s a symbol of Africa’s natural heritage. We believe it’s our responsibility to preserve it. Whether you’re climbing with us or another operator, we encourage you to follow Leave No Trace principles and respect the mountain.

By choosing Halisi Travel, you’re supporting a company that actively works to protect the environment — one step, one wrapper, one trek at a time.
