Lemosho is considered one of the most beautiful routes on Kilimanjaro. It is less crowded and offers a great balance of scenic views and acclimatization opportunities.

Itinerary

  • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Moshi or Arusha.
  • Meet your guide for a pre-hike briefing and gear check.
  • Overnight at your hotel to rest and prepare for the hike.
  • Altitude: 2,100m to 2,650m
  • Distance: 6 km (4 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
  • Start at Londorossi Gate, trek through lush rainforests to Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree)
  • Altitude: 2,650m to 3,850m
  • Distance: 16 km (10 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 7–8 hours
  • Cross the Shira Plateau, skipping Shira 1 to save time, and reach Shira 2 Camp.
  • Altitude: 3,850m to 3,960m (via 4,640m at Lava Tower)
  • Distance: 10 km (6 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 6–7 hours
  • Acclimatize at Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp.
  • Altitude: 3,960m to 4,680m
  • Distance: 9 km (5.6 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 7–8 hours
  • Climb Barranco Wall, trek through Karanga Camp, and continue to Barafu Camp.
  • Rest early for the summit push.
  • Altitude: 4,680m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak), descend to 1,650m
  • Distance: 17 km (11 miles)
  • Hiking Time: 10–14 hours
  • Begin a midnight summit push to Uhuru Peak. After celebrating, descend rapidly via Mweka Camp to the gate.
